A two car collision in Lafayette resulted in the death of one person on Sunday. According to the Denver Post the accident happened on 119th Street near Colorado 7 in Lafayette. Lafayette police Sgt. John Sellers said a compact car with three occupants was southbound when an SUV heading the other way hit the car head-on. The driver of the compact car died at the scene.

The Denver Post has reported that a “Weld County deputy sheriff has been placed on unpaid administrative leave” for allegedly “driving under the influence of prescription drugs.” Doug Grein, a 21-year veteran of the department, was reported to have been swerving in his pickup on US 85 just south of Greeley. The Colorado State Patrol responded to the report and found Grein in the parking lot of a law enforcement training facility in Greeley. He was given a summons and was released to a “responsible party.”
According to AlcoholAlert, 37% of all automobile accident fatalities in the state of Colorado involved alcohol. 202 people were killed in alcohol related accidents in the state in 2008. A Montrose teen involved in a car crash that killed his mother has been cited for careless driving. According to 7News, the 16-year-old boy apparently fell asleep while driving with his mother on Tuesday. He ran off U.S. 550, rolling his truck and hitting a tree. The boy’s 36-year-old mother was killed instantly in the crash. The state patrol cited the boy for careless driving resulting in death which is a misdemeanor.

According to a DenverPost.com report, the driver of a motorcycle who was killed after a crash last week has been identified. James Williams and his wife Julie, who was taken to the hospital and treated for serious injuries, were from New South Wales, Australia. Colorado State Trooper, Heather Cobler, remarked that the “motorcycle rolled over as the driver attempted to change lanes from a milled surface onto new raised asphalt” and the neither of the victims was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

An SUV towing a trailer collided with two cars on I-25 in Lone Tree this morning. According to the Denver Post, the accident occurred when the SUV slammed into stopped traffic due to congestion. The collision caused the trailer to flip over blocking all three lanes of traffic. The occupants of all three vehicles suffered minor injuries in the accident.

9news.com has reported that two people were injured after a single motorcycle accident on Peak to Peak Highway Saturday night. Neither the driver nor the passenger were wearing helmets and sustained serious injuries after being thrown from the bike. Flight for Life helicopters were called to the scene and took the two to St. Anthony’s Central. The extent of the injuries were not known, but it was believed that the driver’s were not life threatening. At this time, police are still investigating the cause of the accident.

A California man was killed this morning in a car accident on I-70 near Gypsum. According to the Denver Post, 69-year-old Stanley Strychez was killed when he lost control of his SUV, hit a guard rail, crossed the median then rolled down a 70-foot cliff. His wife, who was also in the vehicle, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Three people were injured Monday evening after the car they were in collided with a RTD bus. According to CBS 4 Denver, the bus and the car collided at the intersection of Colfax Avenue and Osage Street just west of Speer Boulevard. Two of the passengers in the car were transported to the hospital in critical condition. The other passenger was transported in serious condition. The driver of the bus and lone passenger were uninjured.

According to the Longmont Times-Call, a fatal Boulder County motorcycle accident occurred on Monday. The Colorado motorcycle accident occurred on US Highway 36, a little over a mile from Pinewood Springs. Two motorcycles were riding together heading south, when a van (heading in the opposite direction) crossed over the center line. The van knocked one of the motorcyclists off of his bike, where he was pronounced dead at the scene. While neither drugs nor alcohol is suspected in the motorcycle fatality, police investigators are investigating other possible causes for the fatal Colorado motorcycle accident—including distracted driving.
In 2008 alone, nearly 6,000 people lost their lives in crashes that involved a distracted driver. In addition, more than a half a million other individuals were injured from distracted drivers. According to the Colorado Connection, the brakes on a Greyhound Passenger Bus failed shortly after it let the Greyhound Terminal in Colorado Springs on Saturday, June 12, 2010. The Colorado bus attempted to turn onto I-25 when the brakes failed and the bus struck a curb. During the collision, several passengers were thrown from their seats and sustained minor injuries. In all, 8 passengers were treated for injuries and taken to Memorial Hospital Central. The remaining Colorado bus passengers were taken back to the Greyhound Terminal to await another bus for transportation.
